Audio Systems: cd stuck in player, 2002 hyundai sonata, hyundai sonata

Question
There is a CD stuck in my 2002 Hyundai Sonata car stereo how do you get it out?

Answer
Not easily.  Most commonly it is caused by playing a home burned disc with a stick on label that has hung up inside the mechanism.  But it can also be just because the disc got jammed or the mechanism has been compromised somehow.

Sometimes pulling power from the player for a few minutes will reset the inside drive electronics and start it over when the power is restored.  You can remove power by just disconnecting one of the big cables from the car battery.  You will need a crescent wrench to loosen the cable; pull it off for a few minutes then put it back on and tighten up the bolt to the same tightness as original - don't overtighten it.

In the worst case the unit must be pulled from the dash, covers removed and an expert remove the disc with special tools.  If it is a stuck disc only, the set will work when reinstalled. If the drive mechanism is damaged you will likely be advised to replace the entire radio/cd player.
