Audio Systems: Connecting laptop to dj equipment, disco equipment, pc dj

Hi there, i am a professional DJ and wanting to connect my laptop with thousands of songs on it to my disco equipment to therefore reduce the amount of boxes full of CD's that i have to move about. I know this is possible but need to know what cable i need to go from the laptop headphone socket to my disco mixer!

There are several ways to do this. The preferred way is with a high quality external sound card. It can be connected to your computer via USB and would provide you with line outputs ranging from RCA to TRS to XLR used to connect to a mixer. There are devices made by PC DJ and similar products that allow you to connect multiple streams for mixing.

As a ex DJ myself I can also tell you that you should consider the bitrate and codec carefully for your files. Low bit mp3's will sound worse as the sound system that you play on becomes better. They truncate a waveform which is a form of distortion for a speaker.
