Audio Systems: Door wont open, pc answer, sony tv

Question
QUESTION: I have a Lite on DVD player/recorder hooked up to my Sony tv.
The door won't open.
How can i get the disc out ?
There is no hole like my DVD on my PC.

ANSWER: Does it have power?  Has it been working in the past?  Did this happen of a sudden?  Is there a recording session in progress or one that you did not finish up?

First, do a hard reset. This is done by unplugging the power to the unit.  Leave power off for a full 1/2 hour before powering it up again.

If the reset does not solve the problem, go through the osd setup carefully and see if that will restore everything.

In the worst case it will need servicing; they will remove the covers and determine if it is  a mechanical freeze up (which may need parts replacement) or electronic control IC that has gone bad.

Then let me know if you need more.  But please tell me the make and model of the player and the tv.

So long,
C

Answer
If you check the various forums on this model you will find it to be a very troublesome model.  It seems reliability and ability to accommodate various brands of discs leaves it wanting.

You might try upgrading the software - which you can get from the manufacturers website.  I doubt this will help but worth a try.

Did you try  opening the tray manually to get the disc out?  I suggest you get the disc out - if you need it; then cut your losses and get a replacement unit. However, if it is still under warranty you could see what they suggest doing with it.

I am not familiar with the internal drive engine on the tray but usually there is a mechanical release which will allow the tray to come out.  Sometimes the player has to be almost totally disassembled in order to get at it.

PS: If you purchased it at Radio Shack you should talk to them and see if the manufacturer has an extended warranty due to the many problems this model has had. Sometimes Radio Shack takes good care of their customers - sometimes not.

Why didn't I think of that?  Have you tried it?
