Audio Systems: Second Power Source, saturn sl2, stock radio

Question
I have a 1993 Saturn SL2.  I want to replace the stock radio with a new deck.  I had a friend try to install it and he couldn't get it to work.  I brought it to my dad and he tired installing it using a second power source through the fuse box.  Why will the deck only work by using a second power source?

Answer
You probably don't have the right wiring harness or adapter.

If you are doing it by yourself you need to go to Home Depot or Walmart and purchase their under $10 voltmeter.  Learn how to use it by reading the simple instruction that comes with it. Then check where the 12v line is in the car and make sure you have it connected properly.  Then with the ohmmeter function of the meter you can check out the wiring from the deck to the speakers to make sure they are wired correctly.  That is the only way.

If you are using a wiring harness adapter kit either you have the wrong one or it is not wired correctly.

Take a look at this page. Maybe it will help you alot.
