Audio Systems: mcs stereo reciever, manual volume control, radio shack

Question
Hi.
I have a mcs 3223 stereo reciever. this is a very good sounding stereo
but the volume knob is stripped or damaged.
I am going to replace the pot but am curious as to which pot do I
purchase to replace the existing one. seen one at radio shack but not sure
if it will work with a stereo or not. I feel like I can repair this
stereo it's worth it to me because of the sound it has. just don't want to
trash it yet. I'm a little confused about what kind of pot to use since
there are different ones out there for different things. thank you for
your time.

Answer
I am not familiar with this product. I think it comes from JC Penny does it not?  And it is getting quite old.  You may not be able to find the right volume control for it.

But, if the set is stereo with manual volume control you need an audio taper dual control.   The one that is in the set may be a good enough example to match it fairly closely.

The most important thing is to have its total resistance about the same.

If you have a VOM you can measure the resistance of the current pot.  Then get the same value in its replacement.

Good Luck,
C
