Audio Systems: 99 silverado, jvc cd player, volt meter

Question
I just put in a jvc cd player into my 99 chevy silverado. I had to buy a new wiring harness to replace the old factory harness. When I put it in I found out that my dash lights do not work now. I had checked all of the fuses and they are ok. Do you have any suggestions?????

Answer
I have heard of this problem before.

First, go to:
http://installdr.com/InstallDocs/GM/PDF/460005.pdf
and down on pages 6 and 7 are wiring diagrams and colors.  Check this out against your installation to see if you have mixed up any of the wiring.

If you can locate the dash power wire (a small volt meter is handy to check out where the voltage are; you can buy a good automotive voltmeter at Walmart or Home Depot for under $10).  If the voltage is 0 or very low you may have shunted it off by connecting the jvc wrongly.  Or, you may have shorted out the dash wire accidently.  So, you will need to do some checking/testing to find out what happened.

Let me know if you need more help.
