Audio Systems: Yamaha Problem, yamaha dsp, control amplifier

Question
Hello my name is Ralph and I had a friend that had a Yamaha DSP-A3090 repaired  about 8 or 9 years ago his problem then is like mine now
when you try to change the input selector with the remote control the selector knob spins from one side to they other  about 3 or 4 times before
it stops.

Now I have a bigger problem because of it, if you touch or turn the selector knob the sound goes out for about  4 or 5 seconds if were watching a movie
out of no were the sound goes out for about 10 or 30 seconds some times off and on doing the whole movie my question is can this still be fixed?

I also have a Yamaha DSP-A3090 that have the same problem.

Thanks

Answer
Ralph..The question is does it pay to fix it. If it's older than 5 years I don't think so. The problem is that the volume control is a servo that is a voltage control amplifier and that is not something that your average authorized factory service sees very often. What you should do is contact customer service at Yamaha to see if there is a recall or notice about a problem associated with the volume control of that model. There is always the possibility that if it's not too old there may be a kit that they distributed to solve the problem with a minimum of service time.
