Audio Systems: Optical Cable is de-syncing my audio, correct signal, home theater system

Question
Hello,
I have a LG 32LC2D LCD TV and an Xbox 360 both of which have been connected to my LG Upconvert DVD Home Theater System by way of a Sony Optical Cable. When first using either, the sound comes out fine with no problems. But, after prolonged usage at one time, the audio de-syncs from the picture making games and movies look as though they are a poorly dubbed Japanese flick. Turning off the receiver and then turning it bad on will fix the problem for a short time but it is driving me nuts. I cant find anything on the Internet as to why this is happening. You think you can help me out? I could really use it. Thanks for your time.

Answer
There is a delay in the processing of the a/v signal coming down from your cable or satellite service.  The tv has some delay built into the audio signal so they match up. If this delay is defeated or defective then the audio comes in too early.  In your case it seems the delay is not detecting the correct signal.  When listening to a dvd or VHS there should not be the delay.  Your system is detecting, after it runs for a while, that the signal is a tv/sat signal.

It could be an improper setting of the on-screen-display prompts or a defective delay controller.

Do a hard reset of the tv. Unplug the power cord for 1 hour and try it again.

Check the wiring and make sure you are getting audio from the tv signal and not direct (it may be confusing the receiver auto switching electronics).  If you are feeding audio from the cable/sat to the Home theatre it will not have the delay system; audio should go through the tv and out to the home theatre for the proper delay; otherwise won't be in synch with the picture.

If all fails in your experimentation above you may need a repair of the tv.

If you are playing home recorded dvd discs then you should google for this problem as there are many complaints and DYI methods to repair the problem.

Maybe this will lead you to a solution; if not, come back to me.
