Audio Systems: Bose Bass Unit for 1993 Ford Explorer XLT, bass unit, ford explorer xlt

Question
I have a 1993 Ford Explorer XLT with a Bose audio system in it.  The bass unit, which is housed in the storage area section of the Explorer (near/above the right rear wheel well) has blown out.  Any thoughts on where I might find a replacement unit without spending a ton of money?

Answer
Is it the speaker unit or the amplifier?

Have you tried eBay?

Have you tried crutchfield?

Have you checked to see if the voice coil is open circuit? If so, there are places that will rebuild the voice coil.

Have you considered another maker that might fit into the same space and have similar characteristics?

The trouble with Bose stuff is that it does cost a ton of money to replace them.

If you go to installer.com they have lots of accessories, converters, boxes, etc. that might make it easy to cobble an alternate solution for the job.

Let me know if you need more ideas.
