Audio Systems: Power problem, amp fuse, input block

Question
Quick question. On my power wire to my amp it has no current flowing through it but I took a tester and tested the feed coming into my 100amp fuse under the hood and the feed going out and I had power coming and going both ways but when i tested the wire at the amp "no current". Whats my next step?

Answer
Without knowing how you took the measurement and with what kind of instrumentation (broken wire or click on meters) I am not confident that you are getting the correct results.

But, if there is heavy current flowing through a fuse block you probably have a shorted condition somewhere.  A 100 amp fuse is sufficient to allow a dangerous level of current - and could start a fire in the wiring if there really is that kind of current flowing into somewhere!

And we dont' usually measure power.  So when you say power going into the fuse  are you really talking about voltage or current?

So, here is what you should do: If you have a vom, set it for the scale that reads 12v.  Follow the voltage line from the battery all the way through to the amp. If you have 12v on either side of the fuse, but not at the input block of the amp there is an open circuit in the wiring OR a dead short that is causing the voltage to go to ground. In the case of ground it would draw enough current to immediately blow the fuse.

So, go back and check it over again. I think you will find something: Bad fuse, open wire, etc.

Let me know.
