Audio Systems: music equipment, notch equipment, sony components

Question
hi, i love music and believe it should be heard the same ways as it was recorded in the studio. i have always has top notch equipment cd players speakers eq's etc. but it never ever matches radio played music quality. eg i record  songs from the radio compar it the same songs on a dics from my  home cd   player but in general the radio always sounds better. higher highs lower lows and sometimes instruments i can't hear on my home system. this has been driving me nuts for years. what kind of processing do radio stations use enhancers etc. i would like to have that same sound, any ideas on what i'd need to do that? i currently have top notch sony components along with an eq. thank you  ps even in my car radio sound better?

Answer
You may have to re-think the kind of components you've been selecting. It is a known fact that a radio signal is inferior to high quality CD & analog from CD's, DVD's, vinyl and other digital sources. It seems to sound better because they use enhancers & equalization to achieve that sound. It is not better, it is just more pleasing for the average person.. Sony does not make performance or even audiophile audio equipment. They use the same mentality as the stations that broadcast.

By nature of transmission radio stations are obliged by the FCC to use limiting, leveling and compression devices to prevent their alotted frequency bandwidth to extend to another neighboring station. The sound that has been packaged for the average listener is suppose to seemingly sound better. Studio sound uses equipment cables that are more pricey than a Sony component system. I don't know what city your in, but you should treat yourself to a good listening experience and go into a listening room from one of the more elite consumer sound companies (and I don't mean Best Buy). Some place like Harvey Radio. Talk to the salesman about your experience and see what they say.
