Audio Systems: Onkyo Stereo No Volume, volume model, speaker wiring

Model A-RV401, 2001
We have limited volume, it is like it is on mute, but there is some volume, but even turn all the way up, you can barely hear the music.  I have checked all connections, but nothing helps.

It may have a power supply problem.  But check this out first before you take it in to the audio shop.

ONE:  Unplug the power cord for 30 minutes.  While unplugged disconnect all speaker at the terminals on the rear panel of the receiver.

TWO:  Power the unit up and see if it seems to be working.  

THREE:  If receiver seems okey, turn it off and connect only one speaker and turn it on again.  See if it is working.  If so, move that wire over to the other channel, and so on looking for a point of failure.

This process should lead you to the ailment.  Either it is in the receiver or the speaker wiring or one of the speakers with a short that is causing the problem.
