Audio Systems: In Dash GM 6 Disc CD Player, gm service, gm vehicles

Question
I have CD's stuck in my GM In-Dash 6 Disc CD player. It will not player, eject or load.

Answer
These are tricky matters.
Some of them have a reset button on the front panel. It is a small hole in which you push the button inside the hole with the end of an opened up paper clip or other small instrument.

Some must be reset by removing power from the entire in-dash unit for 20 to 30 minutes (but be careful in doing this because you must have the theft code in order to get it to come back on once power is removed).  You can do this by pulling the power wires if you know where they are or you can lift the cable on the negative or positive side of the battery in the engine compartment.  If you car is relatively new you should not do this without checking with a gm service center for warnings of what systems may be hindered when removing power.

Others must be pulled from the dash, covers removed and the discs extracted manually by an expert who knows the structure of the mechanisms.

In some cases it is just a malfunction or foreign object in the works, in other cases it is a total disaster for the changer mechanisms and require complete replacement of the unit.

If you search around a few forums and gm pages you might find others who have had similar problems with their changers, but you will need to search for you same make and model vehicle.  Not all changes in gm vehicles are the same.  And the vary from year to year and model to model.

Hope this will help.
