Audio Systems: Ford installed DVD Player, warranty service center, 2006 ford freestyle

I have a ford dealer installed dvd player in my 2006 Ford Freestyle and while on vacation it stopped working.When a disc is put in it says "Disc Loading" and thats as far as it gets.

Is it still under warranty?  If so, take it to the warranty service center right away.

If not, see what the cost of repair/replacement is from your Ford dealer.

There are many possibilities for this symptom.  The only way to tell for certain is to do some testing and diagnostics.  The testing is quite expensive. SOme have found it easier and less costly to just buy a new unit; either a Ford replacement or an aftermarket unit.

The most likely or most common cause is either a weak laser diode or defective digital converter.  Either repairs will cost aplenty and is not easy to do by yourself unless you are a very experienced tech with knowledge of the optical pickup and tracking system.  The digital information on the disc is either not being read or not being processed by the digital converter.
