Audio Systems: Car Radio Cuts Out When Driving, acura integra, pioneer deh

Question
I have an Acura Integra, with a Pioneer DEH-5900ib Stereo, and when driving if I turn the steering wheel to the right, when I press the brake pedal to slow down, or when I turn the volume up near half way, my radio or cd-player will cut off the sound... The display stays on and shows that the cd is still playing or the radio is still on... but no sound comes out of the speakers... I have replaced the unit 3 times just to see if thats the problem, and the same thing happens with each one.  I have no amplifier, and only the main 4 speakers... I have re-done the wiring harness and checked the voltage, and thats not the problem... This is driving me crazy, because this just started about 3 weeks ago.  I had the alternator and battery checked and those are fine also! If you can please lead me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Answer
It is likely the 12v line is cutting out or shorting out when you turn.  The wire is dragging across a chassis area and insulation is worn off or it is passing through the steering column and getting shorted out or the brake area, etc.

Here is what I would do; try to duplicate it while the car is standing still so you can put a vom on the 12v line going into the head unit.  Trace that wire from the battery to the unit and see if you can determine where the wire is losing the 12v during cutout.

OR: you could discard the 12v wires to the unit and run two new ones; one from the battery and the other from the ignition - even if temporary to help determine what may be happening.

These are nasty ones to hunt down. Good Luck,
