Audio Systems: Kenwood turntable, harmon kardon, phono cartridge

Question
I have a Harmon Kardon HK6600 amp and want to run my old Kenwood turntable through it. There are plugs on the back for the Phono, One is MM and one is MC, I found out those stand for Magnet and Coil. My ? is, my turntable is a Kenwood kd 2055, is Magnet or Coil, or dose it matter? Thank you.

Answer
Generally a turntable does not come with a phono cartridge. If by chance the cartridge was supplied with the Kenwood then in all probability it's MC. MM cartidges are generally costlier than MC. What you should notice is that the MM setting should be more sensitive giving you higher volume level at a lower setting. Incidentally both cartridges are magnetic just one uses a finer coil then the other and has less output because of it. You should know by listening which is the right setting.
