Audio Systems: Car Stereo, pioneer subs, fuse blows

Question
Ok, here's my question for you. I have 2 12" pioneer subs and a 360 watt Jenson Amp, and my amp wiring kit is about 250 watts. Well, i've had my set up for about 6 months and about a week ago while i was sitting at a stop light my subs just quit working. when i got home a friend and I tore apart everything and took a look. we found that the powerline fuse had blown, so we replaced it; and as soon as i turned on my deck it blew immediatly. We then checked all the wiring and we found it to be fine. So we tried again and the fuse blew again. So i went and bought a 550 watt amp wiring kid and re wired everything and it blew just as the other. Do you have any idea what my problem could be?

Answer
The wiring kit wattage rating is not a factor for fuse blowing.  The fuse is blowing because either the amp is failing and drawing too much current or there are shorts on the speaker lines (which will cause the amp to draw way too much current and eventually fail totally.)

Here is what you can do:

one:  Disconnect the speaker lines at the terminals on the amp. Then put in  the correct fuse and try. If fuse blows with no speakers connected it means the amp is down and will need repairs or replaced.  If it does not blow the fuse again, connect just one speaker line at a time.  If one or both of them cause the fuse to blow again it means there is either a shorted or crosswired speaker line OR a defective speaker at work.

Hope this helps.
