Audio Systems: Head Unit Installation, stock unit, wiring harnass

Question
I had a head unit installed through best buy (i know that was my first mistake but i got it done for free so i figured what the heck) after installation everything worked fine for about a week. Then my keyless entry stopped working on the drivers side. passengers side will work but it wont lock unless drivers side is locked. The lock button on the inside is also in-op. some one said door accuator. Then i talked to a honda dealer service department and they said i have to put my stock unit back in for programming and that i should have room to put the stock unit behind my aftermarket. not true because of my after market depth. so basically my question is how to get my door locks to work without getting rid of my after-market?

Answer
There is nothing wrong with going to BestBuy. They are a very reputable national retail chain.  Many of their stores have competent installers.

The best place to find out the proper installation of the aftermarket unit would be through crutchfield.com who are experts on auto products.  Had you purchased the new unit through them it would have been supplied with installation instructions and diagrams of how to do it.

I suppose your car is a Honda, but without the model and year and other information a specific reply cannot be given you.  However, if you go to the crutchfield site as though you were going to install a new unit into your model it will guide you through to the right products that will fit your car, then choose the one that you did purchase and go to the instructions for installation.  You may have to purchase the wiring harnass and booklet from them.

I suppose there is an anti-theft feature of the stock unit you removed and it may be having interaction with the car electric system.

Conclusion: If you want to solve/fix it by yourself, follow the crutchfield idea.  Otherwise go to another custom install shop and have them troubleshoot the unit and correct the installation.

IF:  There is also the possibility of car electric problems not associated with the installation at all. This would be the case if the car does not have the anti-theft feature referred to above.  Newer cars include anti-theft measures but old ones don't.
