Audio Systems: 1994 Ford Explorer XLT, amplifier input, speaker location

Question
QUESTION: I have a subwoofer enclosure and and amp that I want to install in my Explorer and I am wondering where I need to install the wiring because one person told me the wiring is in the rear right panel in the very back of the car where a factory sub would go and another person told me that has nothing to do with the installation of this enclosure. Thank you.

ANSWER: They are both right.  The amp location and the speaker location are independent - unless it is a self-powered sub.

But I am assuming the amp and the speaker enclosure are separate. Is that right?

If you want to mount the amp in the rear I would suggest you feed the audio input to the amp from the connections back there where the panel is located.  I don't know if your car has the sub feed lines or not. If not, go to

http://www.installer.com/hilo/

and you can find a kit that will allow you to take the speaker line feeds and reduce the level for the amplifier input.  OR: your amp may have speaker level inputs (some do, some don't - and you did not give me any amp information, so you must decide on that one.)

Once the amp is bolted down and speaker lines hooked up you must bring back 12v power lines.  There are two lines to run; one which powers the unit comes, through a fuse, to the amp without any switching.  The other line comes from the head unit and is for switching ON the amp  (this line may be available in the back of the explorer already; you must check it out).

The, the box with the subwoofer in it can be mounted anywhere you would like to put it in the vehicle.

I'm not sure this is answering all the details you need to know, so let me know more if needed.  But, give me make and models so I know what the specifics are; then I can help you more. Thanks,

QUESTION: Well the amp is bolted onto the back of the enclosure and the amp is a Formula Mach-3000 with max of 200W x 2ch and high pass/low pass filter crossover and the enclosure has 2 10" subs in it.and as for the amp having speaker level inputs are you talking the factory amp in my car or the one i want to install?

Answer
The most important thing for you to do now is to make sure the impedance matching of the Mach3000 and the speakers is correct.  You did not reveal the make and model of the 10" subs so we don't know their impedance nor how they are wired.

Also, the Mach is bridgeable, so you must decide that.

Yes, my question was is the subwoofer amp equipped with speaker level inputs. If so, that is the easiest way to get it wired up.

So, concluding, here is my understanding.
ONE: The speakers are in a box and the amp is bolted to the box.  Is the speaker system already wired up to the outputs of the amp?  If so, you must be sure it is wired correctly for the right impedance match and the amp is either in stereo or mono/bridge settings.
TWO:  The amp has crossover points built in. That is good.
THREE: The amp has speaker level inputs.  If this is true, you can wire directly from the speaker wires coming back from the head unit to the input of the Mach sub amp. If it does not have speaker level inputs you will need to come directly from the head amp with rca type cables OR obtain a Hi-Lo kit to bring the speaker levels down to lo level inputs on the amp.
Four: You must get 12v lines back to the sub amp.

Does this sound okey for you?  Let me know.
