Audio Systems: operate auto radio, cadillac dealer, google search

Question
I recently bought cd/tape radio (99 Cadillac Deville)from used parts dealer to replace tape radio in my 98 Deville. New radio shows "Locked-Theftlock Device Active". Cadillac Dealer wants $150.00 to unlock new radio. Is there procedure to get radio to work without paying such excessive expense. I am retiree on Social Security. Thank You.

Answer
Sorry, you must obtain the code.

It would not be a very good anti-theft system if it were easy to crack the code or get around it.

So, you must pay;  the charge offsets the effort they must go through to obtain the code record from the car radio manufacturer.  With one this old you may not be able to obtain it even by paying.

There are other service providers that will get the code for you at a lower fee. You can find them online with a google search.

You will need to provide proof of ownership in order to get the code, I think.
