Audio Systems: Durabrand db1210, amp fuse, music signals

Question
I also have the same situation. (installed in a boat). My player does exactly the same thing,ie, light dims, sound weakens, and seems to be loosing power. However, mine goes a step further and blows the fuse.(5 amp) Using an amp meter it shows a draw of 1.27 amps at low volume and jumps past 10, (the limit of my meter), when the volume is turned up. I thought I was reasonably intelligent in these matters, however......  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

answer

If you check the manual on this model it recommends to use a 5 amp fuse. The unit is rated at 4 x 15 w of audio power.  So, with normal music signals that would be about right.  While drawing 5 amps at 12 v =  60 w.  And with music it never actually delivers that amount because of the dynamic nature of music and voice signals.

So, what is going on?  Of course, the unit could be defective.  However, I think not. I suspect you are not getting enough voltage to keep the amplifiers biased up when the load gets to a few amps.  So, please check the voltage at the amplifier 12v input line when the audio power is turned up.  If you find the voltage drops below about 11 or 10 volts that is the problem.  Either your wires are too small and too long or the battery is not sufficient to keep the radio unit alive.  That would be my thought.

Let me know how it goes.
