Audio Systems: auto radio, vin number, auto radio

Question
I have a chevy, my system went out. My brother gave me his factory chevy system to install, when I install it says it is locked. Is there something I can do to unlock?

all 2002 to 2007 radios need the vin number of the vehicle to turn on
if the radio don't belong to your vehicle it will turn on for 1.5 seconds and show lock

vehicle needs to be taken to the dealer they have a scann tool and will input the vin number in to that radio  
1 to 2 hours labor fee

another way for gm to make more money :)
