Audio Systems: Amplifier, kicker solobaric l5, watts rms

Question
I have 2  12''Kicker Solobaric L5's and I don't know what kind of amp to get...do i get a 2 channel?

Answer
You can use a 2 channel amp but it should be wired in mono (using both channels for one mono speaker array).
If you want sound quality they will handle 500 watts RMS each.
Recommended Sealed Box Volume:

   * Compact (minimum enclosure volume): 0.88 cu/ft; the woofer can handle up to 600 watts RMS
   * SQ (maximum enclosure volume): 2.0 cu/ft; the woofer can handle up to 500 watts RMS

If you are after spl they will handle about 600 each.
Both voice coils are used in each case.

Recommended Vented Box Volume:

   * Compact: 1.75 cu/ft; 2.5" x 13.25" port opening; 22.5" port length; the woofer can handle up to 600 watts RMS
   * SPL/Deep Bass: 3.25 cu/ft; 3" x 13.25" port opening; 14.5" port length; the woofer can handle up to 600 watts RMS

   Note: The power handling specifications listed with the vented enclosure recommendations apply only when a 25Hz, 24dB/octave subsonic filter (sold separately) is used with this woofer. If a subsonic filter is not used, power handling may decrease, excessive port noise can occur, and the life of the woofer may be shortened.

I would go for SQ and look into something that will provide 1000 watts RMS in mono at 4ohms. This can include amps that are two channel and provide 500 watts per channel at 2 ohms.
You could also look for an 8 ohm 500 watt mono amp that is rated to provide 1000 watts into a 4 ohm load.

Then you wire each speakers' coil in series for 8 ohms per speaker.  Then you wire both speakers to the amps' mono outputs in parallel for a final 4 ohm load.
*You can wire the speakers coils in parallel (2 omhs) then wre the speakers together (to the amp) in series for a 4 ohm total load on the amp. There is no difference accoustically or impedance wise since either way, you end up at a 4 ohm mono load.

Once you have adequate power (800-1200 watts for the array), the enclosure is what will really make them shine, so do your homework when designing and building it.
