Audio Systems: mobile accessory installation, chevy astro van, chevy astro

Question
I have a 2001 Chevy Astro Van that I am Attempting to outfit with some video equipment. (Irecently bought it used). Can you give me an approximate wattage total that will run safely equipment on an inverter without torching the electrical system on the van?

Answer
I don't recommend you use a converter or inverter as they consume too much power and 110v stuff is not suitable for auto use as a general rule.

Rather, I suggest you use only 12v products that are designed to withstand the environment of automobile and mobile applications.

There are many LCD display panels and dvd players designed for auto use that you should be considering.

For example, Polaroid has a two screen system with dvd player for mounting in an automobile for under $200 (at Walmart and similar places).  On the high end you can spend much, much more and get game ports and mp3 play and so forth.  You can google or froogle for them; there are many to choose from.

Let me know if you have further thoughts.
