Audio Systems: car amplifier, power transistor, car amps

Question
I have a 1600 watt max 2 channel spl amplifier. One of the channels is not working. Do you know what the problem is and where i can order parts

Answer
You can contact SLP Audio directly and see if they can supply parts for you.

Generally, the electronic parts are generic and can be found in electronic stores, for example.

The most common cause of amp failure is:

ONE: External problems.  Shorted speaker wire.  Shorted voice coil in the speaker connected to that amp. Improper grounding, etc.

TWO: Internal.  Failure of the main power supply or voltage regulator(s).  Shorted/blown audio output power transistor(s).  These are usually caused by overdriving the audio or a shorted speaker line.

It will require some troubleshooting and diagnostics to be sure, by a trained tech. But, I would bet on it being a shorted out  power transistor in the output stage of the amp.  Replacing the parts will be big labor, but the transistors are not so expensive, maybe a few dollars each.

Try this company; they sell lots of SPL amps, maybe they can help with the repair. You would need to ship it into them.

Good Luck.  Let me know if you need more.

PS: You can do some verification testing by switching speakers at the amp; switch left to right and right to left.  This will confirm the amp is the problem and not a shorted speaker wire.  Once you know for positive certain it is in the amp you can decide on getting it fixed or just replace it.  You can see from the website mentioned above that they are not terribly expensive.
