Audio Systems: Adding subs to BOSE system, bose oem, nissan pathfinder

Question
I have '97 Nissan Pathfinder SE equipped with a BOSE cd/cassette deck (stock). I would like to add my sub system (just basic 1 amp + subs) from my prev. vehicle and I am wondering what the deck currently has avail (RCA's/whatever) and what i will need (wires) before i go tearing my dash apart. I cannot find a wiring guide or rear view pic for my deck. Also, if you know a great, quick way to run the wires on my Pathfinder that'd be awesome too. Thanks in advance!

Answer
You can look at autotoys.com and installer.com and crutchfield.com and other such places for an adapter but I  could not find one with a quick look.

You may have to build your own.  This is a problem because the interface for Bose stuff is quite different from the many other manufacturers.

As near as I can find out, your Pathfinder Bose system does NOT have any sub or aux outputs in the back.  I am very familiar with the Maxima for that year and it does not so I assume the Pathfinder does not.

Your installation may require you to tap into the rear speaker line and bring them over to the inputs of your amp.  Depending on the sub amp you will probably need a resistive pad to lower the audio voltage coming from the speaker line.

NOTE: Some Bose systems have the power amp built right into the speaker basket.  In this case, interfacing to your sub amp gets even more complicated.  Please check that out with a visual to the rear speakers.  Then let me know.

Many who have tried to interface Bose OEM with aftermarket stuff have given up in frustration and just ripped out all the Bose and started over. I know that is not a very compelling thought but Bose is a nonconformist company and does not follow conventional standards as other manufacturers do.

I suggest strongly you at least stop in a good installer and get another opinion.

PS:  www.installdr.com has some diagrams and wiring charts that may be helpful, but they relate to standard system on the Pathfinder and not the Bose custom system.
