Audio Systems: audio wiring in boat, fm receiver, battery system

Question
I purchased a new cd/am/fm receiver to replace my old one in my boat.  The old one only had a black wire and a red wire. The new one has a red w/fuse, a yellow w/fuse, a blue w/ fuse, a single black, a double purle, one with black, a double gray, one with black, a double white one with black, a double green one with black.  How do I connect my new system?  Thank you
Henry

Answer
There is no standard on color codes. The fact that there are fuses in the lines mean they connect, somewhere along the way, to the battery system.

But, you must consult the owners or installation manual which will give you the diagram for the unit.

But, do not under any circumstances hook it up without knowing for certain positive that you have determined the purpose of each wire and have it going to the right place. You cannot experiment around hoping to guess because it can do permanent damage if some wires are connected improperly.

If you give me the make and model number I can look it for you - but then you can do so, too.  Most manufacturers have the manuals available on their support web pages.

Good luck,
