Audio Systems: swap 98 taurus speakers, phillips screws, ford taurus

Question
Hi thanks for reading.  I have two 98 Ford Taurus's, one with a great factory sound system the other with a crap factory system and the left driver speaker no longer works.

Anyway they car with the good stereo has blown the engine and we arent going to repair it, so I want to harvest the audio gear outta it and put them into the working Taurus.

Can you point me toward a wiring diagram or anything else of use, like info on how to remove the panels to get to the speakers etc. ?

Appreciate it!

Answer
If you are trying to swap the premium stereo system, it's a big job. The headunit on most of those cars is just a faceplate. The true amp and radio tuner is located in the driver's trunk compartment. This is easy to tell, as the radio antenna is on the driver's rear fender. Follow the cable, and if it ends at a silver box in the trunk, you've found it.
Really, you should focus instead on swapping the dead speaker. There are phillips screws in the door panel, and large ones holding the door pull section firm. The rest you just need a panel removing tool. Available at most auto parts shops.
