Audio Systems: car cd player, car cd player, fuse boxes

I recentley took out an old aftermarket stereo out of my car and put in a new one...none of the dash lights work and the cd player just flashes on and off...was i suppose to connect the wires in a certain order or disconnect the battery? im lost..dont know what i did

You don't have to connect the wires in any order, but you should do it with the battery disconnected. You should test them all before going too much farther. A test light and a 1.5 volt battery (AA or AAA) are needed. Make sure your power wires have power and the speaker wires produce crackles when you touch each pair across the battery terminals.
You probably just blew a fuse. Check both fuse boxes, under the hood as well.
