Audio Systems: ipod to sony cdx-s2000, sony xa, sony cdx s2000

I bought an ipod to rca connector and connected it to the sony cdx-s2000(in a 2004 elantra if that matters), but the stereo won't recognize a third source. It will only pick up radio signal  and CD.  Is this unit too old to pick up ipod?  Shouldn't the RCA inputs be fine?

Should work if the connector (or, really should be a converter or interface box) is the right one.

You need something like the adaptor shown above.  You can shop around at various sites that make such adapters and maybe find one that is made just for your exact model.
