Audio Systems: No sound but radio works, blown fuses, oldsmobile 88

Question
I have a 1998 Oldsmobile 88. I installed an aftermarket radio myself. The person who owned the car before me cut the clip that you can easily clip into the deck so i just got a wiring diagram and installed it. It worked well until i switched to a new radio. i can get the radio to turn on and play cd's and everything but absolutely no sound comes out of the speakers. So i installed the previous radio i had in before with the same result. No pops, no fuzz. I checked the fuses inside my car and replaced any blown ones and tried again with the same result.

Answer
Alarm bells went off for me when you said "replaced any blown ones" like blown fuses are a common occurrence. The fact that you blew any, tells me you may have cooked both decks. If you are lucky, the decks have short circut protection on the speaker outputs. If so, find where the speaker wires are shorting to each other, or to ground. Use a 1.5V battery to check our speaker wiring. When touched across the speaker wires connected to the speaker only, you should hear a crackle and pop from that speaker. Once that has been fixed, the sound should flow. If the decks don't have short circut protection, you will either have to replace with new, or have the damage repaired. Also, you may have mixed up a speaker wire with a wire meant for the illumination, or illumination ground. The colors on GMs have a couple wires that can look similar in poor light.
