Audio Systems: trouble with car radio, radio unit, dash radio

Question
i hooked up an amp in my 2004 accord and the radio shut off and i cant get it back on and dont have any idea what happened the anti-theft ligth keeps flashing. what is wrong with it?

Answer
You must check the wiring of the amp.  You may have miswired it and caused damage to the head unit/radio.

In a case like this you will probably have to pull the radio unit out and bench test it to make sure it still works.  OR: If you want to just start over, buy a new in-dash radio unit and install it properly.  If you do that I recommend you start at www.crutchfield.com where you can get a list of units that are compatible with your vehicle.  If you decide to purchase from Crutchfield they will supply you with the proper wiring harness and installation instructions free of charge.

The above site is a wiring layout for Honda cars; it may be out of date, but will give you an idea of where the wires go.  But, with all installations you must check the wiring and make sure you know for certain each wire and where the connect to the amp or radio unit.

NOW: If the radio unit in the 04 accord has anti-theft protection and if you pulled the 12v power from the radio unit you will have to have the code to get it going again. The theft code comes with the car when new.

Maybe this will help you decide what to do. Then let me know what else you need to know.
