Audio Systems: GMC Envoy stereo, gmc envoy xl, auto wrecking yard

Question
I purchased a 2002 GMC Envoy XL and it came without a stock stereo.  I would like to purchase one on e-bay, but last time I did, it was not the right one and was not compatible with my car.  Is there a way to make sure that p/n 10356164 will fit?

Answer
You could find a salvage vehicle of the same model and year at an auto wrecking yard. That way, you can have them test it before leaving. You usually end up having the GM dealer reprogram the VIN into the new radio anyway, so it may say "locked" when you plug it in. A better solution is to just have an after market CD player installed with one of the new integration adapters. They replicate most of the original functions and are very inexpensive compared to a factory radio. Scosche makes a good one;

Most good car audio install shops would stock these by now.
Check it out, it may be a good alternative to the long search for the exact radio you truck needs...
