Audio Systems: car audio, honda delsol, ford fairmont

Question
QUESTION: hi  i have 1995 ford fairmont in Australia what type of subwoofer box should i build for deep bass and sharp bass could you send me ideas and dimensions thank you for your time
ANSWER: it all depends on your budget, your listening preferences, your needs, etc.  do you want the box to be more musical and if so for what music, or do you need to be heard from a block or 2 away?  OR BOTH????
when you say "sharp" bass I think you mean like punchy and tight which is kinda indicating to me that you are interested in a musical sounding box, not one that just blows the windows out.
again depending on your budget/size/etc. I'd recommend different things but the Polk DB 124s are on sale right now for extremely cheap and I just stuck 2 in a small sealed box inside my Honda delsol and I'm quite impressed for $57 per sub!  check'm out here:

they sound quite musical for all types of music, I've tried them on techno, rap, metal. etc and they sounded good for all in a small sealed box.  and they pounded pretty good too.
let me know what you think of these subs, then we'll talk boxes.  if you want me to pick something else out I'd be happy to,  just let me know your needs.

QUESTION: I for got to mention I already have 2 subwoofers. JL audio model number w3 d2. yes I'm after that punchy sound would like to be heard as far away as possible. Thank you

Answer
ok, these subs can work in sealed or ported boxes.  so again, the sealed boxes will be tighter and punchier in general.  if you go ported it will be louder.  you have to decide when you design the box, "how" you want it louder.  if you port the box around 50 hz its going to be EXTREMELY loud but boomy and not very musical.  if you port the box at 30 hz it will be DEEP and much more musical but not quite as loud.
so sealed will be a smaller box and easier to build. it will sound punchier, but not as loud and not necessarily as deep as the ported box.
the ported box will be larger and more complicated to build but will play louder and depending on the design, deeper.

Are you going to be building the box yourself?  if so do you have box building experience?  do you have access to the right kind of wood?  3/4 mdf is basically the best and readily available at homedepot and lowes.  do you have a table saw?  hand tools are not good enough.
If the ported design sounds right for you, let me know how you think the balance between loud an boomy verses deep shaking but less loud you want or if you need more help deciding let me know that too and I'll try to help more on that.
then I'll shoot you a design for the box.
