why does my subwoofer work with the radio but not when i play a cd?

Answer
CD music contains much more low frequency bass energy than does a radio broadcast. So, you may be overdriving the amp causing it to go into protection.

Here is what you can do:  Turn the Bass control down, then see if it still cuts out.

If not, then turn the Bass up a little more until it does start cutting out. This probably means you are overdriving the amp. Either pushing too much power through it or the speaker is too low in impedance.

If it still cuts out with the Bass turned down you may still be overpowering it OR the amp may be too sensitive to the cd range of frequencies.

In the worst case, the amp could be too low in power and needs to be replaced with a stronger unit.
