Audio Systems: Car Audio Problem... CD system not working..., sony xplod, boston speakers

First off, I have a 1992 Jeep Cherokee with a Sony Xplod CD plyer with 4 Boston speakers... I purchased the vehicle from a guy who had the CD player installed by Circuit City, but he installed the speakers himself.  The system itself only plays the audio every once in a while. Most of the time, it will show that it is playing by the numbers on the display, but the audio is not coming out of the speakers. There are "beeps" that play through the speakers whenever any button is pressed, but nothing else. I was told to check the wiring to see if there were any bare wires on any of the speakers. There were not any... can anybody help me with my problem???

hmm.  sounds like either theres a bad connection inside the cd player or a component inside the cd player failing.  
The Jeep cherokee was available with an infinity sound system from the factory.  the guy that had the jeep may have changed out the cd player and speakers but left the infinity amplifier hidden in the car.  your door speaker grills might say infinity on them, or the logo may be found somewhere in the car.  you can also check for this by pulling out the stereo and looking for a "clip" type wire from the old infinity system.  you can see this at the bottom of page 5 of this link:

they guy could've chopped that connector off so it may be hard to find.  

if you can pull the sony stereo out and get to the wires behind it there's a test I can show you to test for the existance of the amp.
