Audio Systems: factory speakers with an aftermarket system, factory speakers, dodge stratus

Question
hi, I am buying a 2004 dodge stratus sxt 2 door coupe and was wondering how much the factory speakers can hold up if i put a full aftermarket system in without replacing the speakers....would they blow easily? (im looking at putting in Polk db212-2 subs)

Answer
Don't know the specific speakers in your car, but generally speaking, they are quite robust.  And, as with all speakers, it is mostly a function of how much power you put into them. In other words, if you do not overdrive them they will run as long as they would with the oem unit.

If the aftermarket unit is a great deal greater in power than the original it is always a temptation to turn the volume up more than you would with the original, lower powered unit - Then you would endanger the speakers.

Bottom line: If you are careful, you should be okey.  And, especially so, if you use the right crossover for the subs, thereby keeping lots of low frequency power out of the door speakers.

Good Luck,
C
