Audio Systems: Cd Player Problems, intermittent connections, loose connections

I have a Compaq Component System hxz30.  When I play it after a few minutes it either becomes staticy or it will shut off sometimes it just does both.  It doesn't matter what volume the stereo is set at it does it high or low.  I know that it isn't the speakers, I am pretty sure it's inside.  If I touch the sides of the stereo it makes a loud noise threw the speakers.

You may have two separate problems; one with the cd player portion and one with intermittent connections inside.

Two things I want you to do:

FIRST: Do a hard reset. Unplug the power cord for 30 minutes, then start it again.

SECOND:  Give it a good whack test.  Smack the set vigorously in several places. The purpose of this is to clear loose connections and cold solder joints inside the set.

You might find it that the whacking will allow you to find a magic smack that will get it going normally without the droping out and static sounds.

In the worst case you may have to buy a new cd player and plug it into the aux input on the system. You can buy such a player for $9.95 and up.
