Audio Systems: amps, woofers, woofer

hey..I have 2 15" woofers in a box..What size amp do you think i need to get..  Also What exactly does a amp do?

Amplifier powers the speaker/woofers.  The woofers have a rating for power.  Sometimes right on the badge plate of the speaker, but if not, look them up on the manufacturers web.  Then, purchase an amp that is in the range of the ratings of the speakers. I like to use an amp that is at least 50% higher than the so called power rating of the speakers...

Then be careful not to overdrive the woofers so as not to burn them out.  You can tell when they are overdriven because of distortion or speaker bottoming that can produce a clattering sound.  Doing so will quickly damage the woofer.
