Audio Systems: 1997 jeep grand cherokee shuts off, jeep grand cherokee, radio unit

Question
what is wrong with my 1997 jeep grand Cherokee for it to shut off while driving, and a fuse was replaced it started and shut off again, please help

Answer
Let me make sure what you are experiencing?  Is it the audio system that shut off or the engine?  Did the sound stop or the engine or both?

IF AUDIO ONLY: Then the fuse going out and then shutting off again afterwards it is likely the fuse went out again.  If so, there is a shorted down condition in the radio unit. Either it will need to be repaired or replaced. If it is the original radio unit that is in the vehicle I would recommend you replace it as this one is now 10 years old.  Go to www.crutchfield.com to find out which makes and models will fit into this vehicle.

IF ENGINE:  There are two reasons for engine shutting down.  A:  Electrical; spark plugs no longer getting spark and engine dies out abruptly.  B: Gas starvation.  This is usually because of gas pump or something which stops the gas from getting to the carburator/injector. Of course, this can be electrical, also, as the fuel pump may be an electric one and if the fuse for it goes out the pump stops working.  In these cases the engine does not stop abrubtly, but dies out as the gas in the line is used up.

Let me know more if I didn't get it close enough for you.
