Audio Systems: 2006 Ford Expedition - adding Pioneer AVIC-N3 with existing rear DVD, pioneer avic n3, ford audiophile

Question
I just purchased a 2006 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer with rear entertainment DVD. I want to remove the stock stereo/cd changer and add an integrated NAV system, the Pioneer AVIC-N3, which also has an IPOD and XM connection.  I saw a previous posting on this subject but want to ensure it will work and not completly disable the rear DVD player.

1. Previous posting stated the stereo only controls the audio.   Do you know which wires they are or do I just need to find them?

2. Is the Pioneer AVIC-N3 the best choice for what I am trying to do?

Here is the info I found on the allexperts site.

thanks

Answer
This is a custom installation and requires either an installer familiar with Ford's wiring scheme and who has the right wiring harness.

1.  You will need to trace it out if you are installing the Pioneer AVIC-N3 by yourself.  Feeding the audio is not complicated, but the Ford wiring is.  You may be able to get the wiring diagram and harnesses from Crutchfield.

Try:  http://www.crutchfield.com/S-1ZJ56jL8vCO/app/car/mycar.aspx

which may give you some help - and installation materials which you can purchase.

2.  Nothing wrong with the Pioneer unit.  I like all Pioneer products because they have excellent engineering.

Hope this helps,
