I have a 2000 Ford Explorer. A year ago, the display started to go out and come on intermittently, until eventually it just didn't come on anymore at all.  Then, I notice the cd's are hot when I take them out of the cd player.  I love that model Explorer, but a want a navigation system in it. Can I swap out the 2000 Explorer radio (F87F-18C868-AC) for the 2006 Explorer Navigation system (6L2T-18K931-A). Will this swap fit without cutting into the dash? Will the navigation system work? What additional items I will need to make this work?

Do not perform that swap. You have been warned.
Either, have your display fixed by one of the shops advertising on e-bay, or upgrade to an after market unit that has navigation built-in. Your vehicle has a prmium sound system to contend with, so consider having it professionally done at the place you buy the new head unit/nav system combo.
