Audio Systems: Car CD Player Plays/Stuck/No Display, car cd player, electrical department

Question
Hi,
My Pioneer aftermarket CD player (It is a flipdown) plays the cd I put in it, but as soon as the car is turned on the panels shut down meaning I can't eject the cd, turn up or down the volume, change tracks, source, etc. It is silence or the CD i have (which is getting old). The reset button also doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Answer
Not sure what you mean.  Does the cd player behave normally prior to the ignition switch in the car being turned on?  Then after the ignition is on the cd player acts like it is dead?

Maybe it is dead; maybe the ignition switch in the car is not energizing the unit and it is literally turned off.  Do you have a VOM to measure the 12 volts at the cd player?

This is a simple thing to check at the car install/repair shop; they have the instruments and experience to check it out in a few seconds - for  a fee of course.

If you have the knowledge to use a VOM, you can purchase one for $9.83 at the Walmart electrical department that is good for checking car voltages.  Checking the voltages at the two voltage line inputs to the cd player would be a good place to start with your own troubleshooting.

Let me know if you need more help.
