Audio Systems: amp hook up for a chrysler sebring 98, chrysler sebring convertible, power to the amplifier

Question
hey there, I have a 98 Chrysler Sebring convertible and Im trying to hook up a boss amp (I believe its 2000 watts. I have all the cables run to the stereo, and everything hooked up, but Im having a problem with the power. Im not sure if you know much about this car, but I  hooked it up to the jumper +- and the battery dies (even if the car is turned off). I guess my question would be where do I hook the power to?

Answer
the amplifier should have 3 connections for power,

1. the posative connection should be directly connected to the car's battery.

2. the ground should be connected directly to a bolt through the car's body/chassis where the paint has been sanded off to make a good connection.

3. there should also be a connection, usually labled "remote"  this is the trigger for the amp to turn on.  if you jumper this to the posative it will be on all the time and drain your battery.  the right way to hook this up is to something that only turns on when the key is turned.  I like to use the cig lighter, or the wire that turns the cd player on.  you can usually tap these at the device, or sometimes at the fuse pannel.

Most amps have a light that comes on when the amp is on.  you can use this to know that the amp is turning off when the car is off.
Good luck and let me know if there's anything else I can help with.
