I thank you for your fast response. i am assuming your response indicates I need to open these guys up and do a little cleaning. Is it realistic to think both Samsung and Sharp have identical problems at the same part of every disc?

-----Question-----
I have in my home three brand new DVD player/ recorders, and one brand new Sharp DVD Player.

I have the same problem with every one of them. Somewhere during the latter third of the movie the DVD stops/ skips/ plays eratic and or locks up the DVD.

I am using brand new store bought DVD's. I have put the power ona different cicuits just in case the power supplies in DVD's are sensitive.

Thoughts would be appreciated, I am very frustrated.

sounds like you might have a combination problem, dirty pickup lens and the pickup transit mechanisim needs a tiny drop of teflon oil. other than that, i'm stumped; new units shouldn't do that.

Answer
well, the transit mechanisim is the part that moves the pickup across the disc. movies and cd's start at the center, and play outward. that's why it sounds like the shaft that the pickup slides on needs lube. but my main concern is their newness..is there the possibility of getting warranty service? i'd hate to see you do anything that would void any warranty. but if you must, then you have to open it, note how the disc clamp is mounted and remove it to get to the p/u (pickup)and mechanisim. do not use anything but a breath of air to moisten the lens and gently twist a q-tip on lens to clean it. just a tiny drop of teflon oil on the shaft below p/u mechanisim. carefully reinstall disc clamp and test before putting cover back on as to visually confirm all is working well. fast forward to last tracks to see if you're done.. good luck....
