Audio Systems: car audio after market installation, olds cutlass supreme, delco radio

Question
mark--while you may have received my inquiry twice, i didn't get the 'response' you refer to in this message--but i infer that you suggested i try the crutchfield site for a harness. guess i'll go there now.  thanks for trying.

-----Question-----
Help?! questions, hope not too many. I am trying to replace the OEM [Delco] radio/cassette/digital clock unit in a 1991 Olds Cutlass Supreme with a JVC KD-G820 head unit.  I have the Olds car-wiring schematic, but of course most of the [17-pins in 3 separate connectors] colors used by GM that year don't match the 13-pin JVC [EIA] harness [except the 'ground' and 'amp remote'] and the Delco has no wiring diagram on it. I have searched the Internet  for days, but the closest I come is examples on the 'installer.com' website where some descriptions of GM 'pinouts' are close, but don't exactly match the 1991 Olds].

1.   I can figure out which of the OEM harness connector wires match front and rear speakers, but how can I determine which speaker wires are ' ' or '-'? The Olds schematic just shows 'A' and 'B' circuits [same ID on the rear speaker connectors themselves].  The diagram indicates 'B=red/A=black' initial wiring that eventually becomes 'gray/tan' and 'dark green/light green' for the front left and right channels. [on 'installer.com, examples for a 1995 Buick and "GM Mini '88-'95" both use 'grey/tan' and 'dk. grn./lt. grn.' front speaker wiring-- the grey and dark green being '-'--is it safe to assume my '91 is the same?]

2.    The OEM harness wires I can't match to the JVC harness:
a.    the JVC 'illumination' wire is Orange/white, while Olds schematic shows 3 possible 'lighting' connections: a brown/white 'VF dimming input'; a grey 'incandescent dimming input' ; and a yellow 'lights on dim input' [the yellow wire is listed as '.8'[ presumably so one doesn't confuse it with the '.5' yellow wire that seems to be the Accy. connection, or the '.5' yellow wire that is part of the rear left speaker channel!?! ].  Which wire should I use for the illumination? [and how do I tell a '.8' wire from a '.5' wire since they're both in the same side of the OEM '6-4' split pin connector?] [the 'installer.com examples both show 'grey' wire for illumination--so is that the same as my 'incandescent dimming input' gray wire?
b.   there is a 4-slot connector that holds 3 wires: the grey 'incandescent dim. input',  a .5 dark green wire and a .5 black wire. The schematic indicates the black is of course a ground, while the dark green connection relates to the DATA 'Htr., A/C, and radio control interface module and 'htr. and A/C control assembly' The car never had any 'remote ops' for the radio, so what why would the Delco have had this connection? [The heater seems to work OK with it disconnected ?]
c.   I want to use an 'aftermarket' harness to connect to the OEM harness, so that I don't have to cut off the OEM connectors, but I can't really tell from the pictures/descriptions on the various audio-harness websites which might actually match my  1991 GM/OEM connectorch(s) was in the following configuration:
--One connector is 10 slots split into 2 sections [4 for the front speaker wires; 6 for the Ground, 12V power, Accy.,  Power Antennae, VF dimming, and 'lights on dim' wires];
--One 4-slot connector holds the 4 rear speaker wires;
--One 4-slot connector holds the 3 'interface module' wires mentioned above.
These 3 connectors fit into the Delco in a 2-level, rectangular configuration two 4-slot connectors sat side by side on top [or bottom?] of the 10-slot split connector. Any suggestions for how to determine the correct 'matching' aftermarket harness? Or aftermarket dash kit? [the Delco was huge but not deep, and the JVC is single DIN but deeper than the dash opening]

Arrgh.
-----Answer-----
I answered your question (for some reason I got a 2nd copy) but in reading it further (read my other responce first) but I notice you looked at harnesses already.  I'm pretty sure that cruchfield will let you return your harness if it doesnt work out.  I would definatly still sugest going with them first.  IF it comes down to needing to use the meter to diagnose wire by wire, I'm happy to help you with that but lets try the crutchfild harnes first. Also, I wouldnt go by crutchfields' picture, I think that's a generic picture for all the harnesses so dont worry about if it doesnt match what you see.  If you want, call them up and speak with one of the reps there, they are very friendly and knowledgable, also ask about the gauruntee.

Good luck again!

Answer
yeah,  what happened was that I got 2 copies,  I responded to both.  you may have only gotten the responce where I talked about the other responce.    sorrry about that,  this site can be finikey.
yes, crutchfield offers excelent support and they should have the right harness for you.  if not we can always just cut off your old harness and use a meter to test the wires that are there and splice on to them.

try the harness first and if it doesnt work out, return it and get a meter, then write back to me for help on how to use it.

Good luck!
