Audio Systems: putting homeaudio into car, jeep cherokee, homeaudio

Question
Hi there,
I would love to know the answer to this. me and my friends have been wondering about this for the longest time. I own 2 shelf speakers: 540watt JVC HX-30. i would like to know if it is possible to add these speakers into my Jeep Cherokee? i understand a professional would have to do this, but i figured it would save me $100's with buying new speakers.
thanks alot,
Wade

Answer
it looks like you're referring to the HX-Z30 (couldnt find an HX-30)  seen here:

looks like this is a shelf system.  These speakers are suppose to by "by-amped" which means you'd need 2 separate amplifiers, one running the woofer section and one runnning the mid/tweeter section.  or you'd have to design your own crossover.  Bi amping is great and all but it costs money since you'll need to purchase 2 amplifiers which would end up being more expensive than just buying the right speakers for your car.

The second problem is I'm not sure if you were looking at tearing the speakers out and putting them in the car or just putting the whole thing into the car but really neither way would work.  If you tore these speakers out you'd have in total:

2x 7 7/8" woofers
4x 5 3/8" midranges
2x 2" tweeters

Dont know where you'd go with all that and these are not typical sizes.
If you just wanted to keep these in their boxes and put them into the car "whole"  they wouldnt fit up on the dash or anywhere up front so you'd be forced to put them in the back which is a very unnatural sounding setup to have all the sound coming from behind you.  even so you'd still have the "bi amp" issue.

Hope that helps!
