Audio Systems: aiwa home stereo, aiwa home stereo, aiwa cd

Question
i just read your response to the aiwa cd reader problem.  is this person an owner of a newer system.  i purchased an aiwa home system in 1998 and have the same problem continuously with my system too.  i will be in the market for a new system in the near future.  i want one with 3way speakers and several component jacks on the back.  is there particular name brand you have experienced good that has pretty clear sound quality?

Answer
Best source of ratings for this class of audio is from Consumer Reports. Most public/government libraries have back issues of these magazines. The November and December issues are famous for giving home electronic reviews.

Also, there are a few rating services on the net that may be of help; epinions.com, cnet.com and the like.

Aiwa is okey, JVC is good, Panasonic is good, etc.

Why do you want 3- way speakers?  Some sound good, some sound no better than 2-way.  But to get the best interface options and flexibility (which is a very good thing to do) you must go to the shops and look around at the back panels.  I do most of my comparison shopping at BestBuy, Circuitcity and such places.

If you wanted to move up the the better stuff, look at Denon, Onkyo, Yamaha and similar brands.

Hope this helps.

PS: And you are right, a set thet is 8 years old is ready for replacement!  The laser diode is surely getting very tired.
