Audio Systems: Audio Repairs, happy hunting, micro cd

Question
Micro CD Stereo Radio Player System TEViON MD 40116 has a noise fault.
When switched on a loud crackling buzz is heard in both speakers.
The volume control has no effect on this buzz.
Switching to CD, Radio or AUX (with known good input) has no effect.
All indicators and CD functions appear fine.

I am capable of all levels of repair. However before I dive in I would like a refresh
on where to start as I have been out of this line of work for a lot of years.

sounds to me like the audio output amp chip has failed, or even just poor solder connections near or at the output chip. shouldn't be hard to locate, once you get it open. look for a 10 or more pins on one side with the body of chip mounted to metal heat sink. then, if you can get to the solder side of board, examine and touch up connections where needed. 90% are fixed this way. happy hunting!!
