Audio Systems: engine noise interfering with xm radio unit and ipod, 2006 toyota rav4, engine rpms

Question
I have a 2006 Toyota Rav4. Recently I've had an XM radio receiver and a hook-up for my ipod professionally installed. Both the XM and the ipod play through my car's factory radio using one aux input located in the center arm rest/storage compartment. I unplug/plug in the desired input cables depending upon which device I want to listen to. The radio, of course, has to be switched to aux mode in order for me to hear music through the factory speakers. Here's the problem: whining high pitched noise that rises and falls with the engine rpms is audible over the music when using either of these devices is plugged in. The noise is there even when the devices are plugged in, only, and not powered up. The exception is when I plug in the ipod from its headphone jack to the aux input using its battery power, not the 12v hook up which was installed. The ipod plays fine with this configuration but does not charge, of course. Is the likely problem a bad ground, bad cable or some other cause? Let me know if you need more details.

Answer
i have seen the sam problem in a 2006 camry and avalon i believe the aux cable install in the vehicle is of a bad quality cable  toyota don't sale a new one   but i try this in a toyota and we control the ipod and see the name of the song and artis also this interface comes with the aux plug on the side for xm
